Chiropractic Care

Indulgence for body and mind

Chiropractors specialize in analyzing and correcting misalignments of the joints of the spine and also of the extremities. These misalignments are referred to as a vertebral subluxation, where a joint has become restricted, reducing its range of motion, impairing its function, and resulting in interference to the optimal function of the nervous system.

Subluxations are corrected by the chiropractic adjustment; often done by hand with a specific direction and force to restore proper joint motion. When motion is restored to the restricted joint, the function is improved and the nervous system is cleared of interference. Adjustments are non-invasive and safe for even the youngest of patients.

How does a subluxation affect me?

The spinal column is made up of 24 bones (vertebrae) connected through a series of joints that allow us to move through a variety of motions and postures. None of this motion would be possible without the central nervous system (brain & spinal cord), which controls and coordinates all functions within the body beyond movement.

The spinal cord is housed within the spinal column and therefore has a very intimate relationship with the activity of the central nervous system. Each spinal level has a set of spinal nerves that make their way from the spinal cord through the spinal column out into the peripheral parts of the body. When a vertebral subluxation is present it impairs the proper motion of the spinal joint and directly affects the nerves as well. Irritation of the nerve occurs through chemical mediators and inflammation which are drawn to the area because of this lack of motion, the body knows there is a problem. This impairs the function of the nerve and the quality of the nerve impulses it is responsible for transmitting. This results in some part of your body having reduced function because it is not receiving adequate information from the nerves and will not be able to perform optimally. The body is unable to adapt to even our everyday stressors as efficiently as it should.

Pain is a common symptom that results from subluxation as well as tight muscles, joint stiffness, reduced range of motion, and flexibility. You may also have visceral symptoms such as heartburn, diarrhea, constipation, etc.

It is the job of a chiropractor to analyze and locate the vertebral subluxations and then correct them through a series of adjustments to restore joint motion and correct the misalignment and reduce the interference that your nervous system is experiencing.

What Causes Subluxation?

STRESS

1.    Physical/Structural- birth trauma, repetitive use injuries, poor posture, sedentary lifestyle, sports injuries, falls, accidents, etc.

2.    Chemical/Nutritional- medications, food additives, environmental pollutants, hormone-disrupting chemicals, toxic cleaning products, tobacco, alcohol, etc

3.    Emotional/Mental- depression, anxiety, managing daily life, financial, relationships, work, school, etc.
