Meet Dr. Kelsey Sweet, DC
I’m Dr. Kelsey Sweet, and I have a relationship-based, boutique practice in Greeley. It allows me to get to know you, and you to get to know me, so your care is a personal, holistic experience.
Why I work with moms, babies and kids
I knew coming out of school that I wanted to work with pregnancy and babies, and I was very interested in extra training with the ICPA. One of my mentors had a practice very similar to what I wanted, and that’s actually where I interned and then worked as an associate for a year.
After having kids, I realized how hard it is being a mom, and that you need a whole community team on your side. My office allows me to provide extra support for moms, and we have good referral partners to collaborate with. If a baby has a bad latch or is super fussy, we can connect with an IBCLC and work alongside other allied health professionals to make sure the family is taken care of quickly.
Being a mom also gave me an understanding of what it’s like to get out of the house with a new baby, and how vulnerable that can feel. Postpartum wasn’t the easiest season for me. I see a variety of that in my practice: some moms are really struggling and some are thriving. But it definitely gave me empathy for what sleepless nights are like, and for how hard it is, and the toll it can take on your family, when a baby is struggling.
My kids and family are adjusted regularly, and it’s an important part of our healthcare routine. I’m teaching them how important it is to listen to their bodies, feel their bodies and be comfortable in their bodies. Chiropractic is a great non-invasive way to make sure things are moving well and that our nervous system and brain-body connection are at their best, especially in the stressful world we live in.
How my care is different
Compared to a general chiropractor, I have over 180 hours of advanced training in caring for infants, children and pregnancy. Babies and kids have special things to consider. They’re not just tiny adults, and if you’re taking your baby or kids to a chiropractor, they need to have those skills.
I will always make clinical decisions based on my patients’ needs, and sometimes I do need to refer out, whether that’s for lactation help, pelvic floor PT, a pediatrician or a pediatric dentist. I know when it’s appropriate to do so.
I think people are surprised by how gentle a baby adjustment is. A lot of times babies are super calm and happy. Other times, it’s eye-opening for parents to see that their baby is really tired, or has a pretty significant restriction in how they can turn and move their head. Seeing that can make parents less fearful of moving their baby and empowered to do stretches at home.
If you’re wondering whether I can help you or your little one, click to book an adjustment or call/text the office at (970) 352-2989. I’m happy to talk it through first.
